Until this robotic dental technique came along the only procedure for removing cancer in the area at the back of the mouth including the base of the tongue and tonsils involved splitting the jaw, removing the cancer, and repairing it with tissue from the forearm.
At right, one of the patients that benefited from this technique, who was home within a week after the procedure.
