This article presents preliminary results from a study done by the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.  They found that tooth plaque which appears on the surface of teeth, can find its way into the blood, through bleeding gums, where it can stick to the heart valves and create heart problems.  As a result of these findings, the researchers stressed the importance of keeping your gums healthy and receiving regular dental care.
