Why is Flossing Important?
Flossing is a very important but often forgotten, task in the majority of people’s daily routines. Having good flossing habits can prevent cavities and gum disease. According to the American Dental Association, it is recommended that individuals floss their teeth daily. Flossing aids in the removal of plaque that builds up on the teeth. Plaque is formed from leftover food within the teeth that create bacteria that feed on the leftover food. When the bacteria does this, an acid is released that will damage the teeth.
Over time, the build-up of plaque on the teeth will eventually form into tarter, which can ultimately lead to gum disease. Tarter is a hard substance that will collect along the gum line. Once tartar has formed on the teeth, only a dentist can effectively remove it.
