Commentary:
According to this article, a study released by the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California reports that there may be some promise in researching how tooth renewal in American alligators occurs, particularly as it relates to stem cells. Most vertebrates can replace teeth throughout their lives but for humans, this happens only once. Studies on vertebrates such as alligators on how this is accomplished may, sometime in the future, lead the way to developing a method for teeth replacement for humans.
