Eat even a small amount of grapefruit and it may, even hours later, cause certain drugs to be absorbed more readily than normal into your body, essentially increasing the dosage of the drug. This can potentially lead to respiratory failure, acute kidney failure, and even death. Four years ago 17 drugs were identified as prone to this dangerous interaction. Now that number is 43.
