Commentary:
There is apparently a myth in Sweden that snuff users have less problems with cavities than non-snuff users. The theory is that the nicotine alters the mouth chemistry to reduce cavities. According to this article reporting on a thesis from the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, the facts just don’t support the rumor. Snuff users just don’t statistically fare better in avoiding cavities than non-snuff users. On top of that, there is a bit of bad news for those who use non-nicotine snuff, since it is higher in carbohydrates, which will tend to increase the risk of cavities. So the bottom line is dip snuff at your own risk!
